While most Subarachnoid Hemorrhages are caused by a ruptured aneurysm there are some (about 15%) where no bleeding source can be identified.
Those patients are classified as having a Non-Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage or NASAH for short. This is the category I fall into.
A positive aspect about suffering a NASAH is that the outlook/prognosis for this type of brain bleed is generally more favorable than suffering one caused by an aneurysm.
A negative aspect about suffering a NASAH is that unlike those who suffer an aneurysmal bleed, learn their cause and receive preventive measures (coils or shunts) to avert another one. We're unable to receive these preventive measure since our cause is unknown, and left wondering "what caused it" and will it happen again? Hence - Double Edge Sword.
